The digital sphere is providing essential channels for MSF s communications in order to maximize the reach of MSF s voice and allow better interaction with a general or more specialised audiences, anytime and anywhere around the globe.

The position of Digital Advisorwas created in 2015 within the Operational Communication Unit (Combo), which is the support unit for communication in MSF s Brussels Operational Centre. The position had a strong impact on the digitalisation of MSF OCB communications by supporting the launch and the management of Social Media Accounts in various countries of operations, on raising the digital culture and knowledge within the unit but also in building a solid internal/external network around digital communication for MSF Operations.

In this next phase, we expect this position to keep up the great work by ensuring sustainability and autonomy of the different field-based accounts, consolidate the internal/external network, advise operations on social media strategies but also participate in the content production as project manager and advise on trending tools, formats and distribution strategies for social media.

The Digital Advisorworks within the MSF OCB Combo Unit, in the Creative Content Team (CCT) and reports to the CCT coordinator. The Combo Unit is a multidisciplinary team that provides strategic advice, support and audio visual productions for the benefit of operations managed by the Operational Centre in Brussels (OCB).


It s a full time position based in Brussels. S/he collaborates closely with all the members of the Creative Content Team but also with Field Communication Managers and Field Digital Officers and the Communication Advisors.

1.Strategic input

Develop and advise on social media strategies for field-based social media in context managed by MSF OCB, to be implemented by field comms staff.

Coach and train field comms staff to ensure the development of these accounts (including editorial line, content creation, engagement, dissemination strategies, MSF reputation, recruitment ).

Advise MSF operations on digital tools/means to help address missions needs.

Organise, facilitate and conduct digital context analyses upon request from MSF s OCB Operations.


Insure online monitoring during crises and emergencies, with the support of MSF network and tools.

Follow digital innovations and social media evolution / trends. Research and report on trends in global digital campaigns and promotion and conduct best practice analyses.

3.Content Production

Ensure Project management of communication initiatives including audio-visual production, written pieces, others

Provide guidance on digital tools, formats and channels and approaches including audience targeting and audience-building


Provide trainings modules on social media and digital tools and practices to peers in the unit, field communications staff and members of the operations department both in headquarters and in the field.

Develop tutorials and guidelines on social media and digital tools and practices.


Participate actively to intersectional digital networks like Digital Working Groupand Global Digital Steering Committeeto continue digital transformation within MSF communications.

Be a focal point with Digital Health Promotion projects.

Develop external network of Social Media professionals.



Solid and proven experience in digital communications and social media strategies and community management

Experience of remote collaboration and distance coaching

Good command of English (Arabic or French is an asset)

Photo and video production skills, and/or basic of Adobe Creative Cloud is an asset

Flexibility and ability to work under tight deadlines

Creativity and sense of initiative

Availability to travel at short notice to complex security contexts

Previous experience in the international humanitarian sector is an advantage

A good judgement of ethical aspects of communication, copyright and legal aspects

Good knowledges of Office 365 and Mac environment
