This role will work with a National Media and Communications Coordinator and support in building capacity and building strong networks with international media. The position reports to the Advocacy Manager, Yemen

Duties and responsibilities

Serve as one of NRC s official spokespersons for all media in Yemen Support on the development and coordination of the implementation of external communication (public information, communication, reporting) and media (international, regional and local media and social media) strategy, proposals and plans as needed for Yemen Develop annual activity and work plans for utilizing external communication and media opportunities to advance programmatic and advocacy objectivesCooperate with relevant internal and external partners (Head Office, East Africa and Yemen Regional Office, Middle East Regional Office, UN, INGOs) to develop coordinated and effective communication campaigns Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor visibility and reporting requirements in all external communications, and support programme team to adhere to these regulationsBe in constant dialogue with Advocacy Manager and Area Managers, technical specialists and Advisers (as relevant) in order to cover NRC Yemen s programmesRegularly travel to NRC s field offices to cover and collect media material from NRC distributions, programmes and field workProactively pitch media stories linked to NRC advocacy and programmatic priorities in Yemen to key media outletsEstablish and strengthen strategic relationships with international, regional and national journalists covering Yemen. In particular, focusing on targeted geographical priorities including Arabic, European and US media in line with country advocacy and funding strategies Be an active member of NRC s Global Communication Network and Middle East Regional NetworkPromote Yemen in national, regional and international media for advocacy and programme purposes, including through maintaining a network of journalists in Yemen, the region and internationally who cover conflict and humanitarian issues in YemenIn coordination with the Yemen Advocacy Manager and the Regional Media Advisers and Head of Media and Communication at Head Office, develop strategic communication priorities in line with the country Advocacy Strategies and broader Country Office Annual Plan of ActionEnsure the delivery of quality communication products in English and Arabic (feature stories, press releases, infographics, photo-stories, documentaries etc.)Liaise closely with the programme teams to ensure that NRC s work is featured appropriately in various online and print platformsRegularly create content for NRC s social media platforms; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and for NRC s websiteAdvise the Country Director and Advocacy Manager of strategic use of national media opportunities to develop NRC s reputationSupport field teams with the preparation for external visits to NRC field activities by media, donors and others, ensuring NRC s media guidelines and policies are observed; dependent on access improving in YemenTrain national and international spokespersons in Yemen country offices, and ensure spokesperson capabilities in various languages Build capacity of country communications staff to produce video, photo, and other media and communication products in line with NRC standards Support Yemen Country Team with media work around key advocacy moments, report launches, and global NRC media moments. QualificationsUniversity degree in journalism, media, communications, or relevant subjectA minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a similar positionExcellent English, oral and written (sound journalistic writing style); Arabic language is an advantage Basic photography, video and social media skills are highly desirableExperience working as a journalist is an advantageExperience with communication within the humanitarian sector is preferable Personal qualitiesKnowledge about own leadership skills/profileKnowledge of Yemen, regional media and communication networksKnowledge of communicating humanitarian needs and ethical reporting of beneficiariesCommitment to humanitarian principles and dedication to humanitarian workFlexibility, including ability to work overtime on weekends and evenings according to need and requests. Contract Period: 12 months renewable subject to availability of funding

Salary/Benefits: International Grade 7. Attractive compensation and benefits package

Travel: On need be basis
