The Head of Communications will lead on the development and implementation of the end FGM programme s communications strategy. He/she will support the African-led movement to end FGM, including partners, grantees and stakeholders, to communicate effectively about FGM to the targeted audience through capacity building, amplifying stories of change, and ensuring a cohesive messaging.


The Head of Communications will oversee content development for all of the programme s platforms, including social media, the website, and for public relations and mainstream media coverage. They will be responsible for producing, and overseeing the production of, written and graphic materials which ensure consistency and compliance with programme brand, values, key messages, and style guidelines. The Head of Communications will liaise with colleagues and grantees in focal countries to amplify stories of change and showcase the African-led movement on the global stage.

The Head of Communications will ensure that all communications work relating to the programme adheres to Safeguarding and Do No Harm guidelines, given the sensitivity of the programme focus.

Development and implementation of communications strategyOversee content creation, including managing external suppliers and quality assuring their workSocial change communicationsAmplify stories of change from the Africa-led movement

Person specification:

Demonstrated experience of developing and implementing complex integrated strategic communications programmes at scaleHighly experienced brand strategist, with experience gained in either the commercial or not-for-profit sectorExperience designing and implementing effective advocacy media campaign, preferably on social issues.Demonstrated ability to optimise brand strategies within an African contextExtensive on the ground experience of working in a minimum of one sub-Saharan African countries.Experience in effectively managing relationships, including at a distanceOpportunistic in a dynamic environment and able to swiftly change courseThe ability to communicate complex concepts to a variety of audiences/stakeholdersExceptional and creative written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skillsExperiencing of working on sensitive issues such as FGMStrong commitment to safeguarding and Do No Harm principlesStrong preference for candidates with the right to live and work in KenyaFluency in English; working proficiency in French desirable
