The King s Sierra Leone Partnership (KSLP) is a long-term capacity building partnership between King s Health Partners in London and key partner institutions in Sierra Leone. KSLP aims to help strengthen Sierra Leone s health system by improving training, clinical services, policy and research. Key partners include University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospitals Complex Connaught Hospital (USLTHC), the College of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) and the Ministry of Health & Sanitation (MOHS).

As the adult tertiary referral hospital, Connaught provides specialist inpatient services for people living with HIV and has the largest outpatient service in the country. KSLP supports health system strengthening projects at Connaught Hospital aimed at improving the quality of care for people living with HIV as well as supporting the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) with technical advisory support.

The Role

The main aim of this role is to support improvements in care across the HIV care continuum, from increasing diagnosis and improving the recognition and management of opportunistic infections to supporting ART adherence and switch to second-line therapy. The successful candidate will:

Work alongside colleagues from Connaught Hospital and the NACP to identify bottlenecks to service delivery and identify and implement quality improvement strategies Develop and deliver training and mentorship to multi-disciplinary team members Support the roll-out of electronic data systems in the HIV clinic including local analysis and use of data for decision making Support the development of systems for inpatient data collection to monitor and evaluate key elements of the care cascade Contribute to monthly multi-disciplinary quality improvement meetings Teach and assess medical undergraduate students on an occasional basis

Person Specification

Qualifications: A medical degree. Professional registration in home country. Membership of Royal College of Physicians or equivalent.Experience: At least 5 years clinical working experience including at least 18 months of clinical HIV experience Personal Characteristics: Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills, as well as confidence working within a multicultural team; skilled at multitasking and prioritising, working independently with minimal supervision, and leading and designing projects autonomously with an appreciation of the philosophy behind a long-term co-development health partnership.

It would be advantageous if the candidate had:

An educational qualification or diploma in tropical medicine or global health (or equivalent) More than 6 months experience of work experience within Africa A keen interest in health and education systems strengthening, audit, quality improvement and research Support Provided Support Provided to Volunteers

This is a 6-12 month unpaid voluntary position but the post holder will provided with: Return flights to and from initial post, plus one paid leave flight to and from Freetown for every six months in post
