MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About MAG in Niger:

MAG supports the development of countries emerging from conflict by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war, so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. One predominate area of focus in MAG s programmes across Africa is Arms Management and Destruction (AMD) work, working with national defence and security authorities towards the safe storage management as well as destruction of weapons and munitions. Niger is a new project for MAG, where we will are working with partners (which include the military, government) across a number of AMD activities.

About the role:

Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work, and actively manage and lead our teams of national staff to safely implement our life saving work. MAG s AMD Technical Field Managers liaise with national and local defence and security authorities, seeking to improve weapons and ammunition stockpile management. AMD operations are usually focused on armoury construction, design and management, weapons management, needs assessment and bulk demolitions. MAG s TFMs are responsible for the day-to-day management of all technical interventions and as well as managing administration, finance, procurement, reporting and planning.

This role in Niger will focus on armoury rehabilitation for Small Arms and Light Weapons and training national security forces. This is part of a bigger regional project in West Africa with the view to seeking longer term funding.

About you:

Ideally, you will be qualified and experienced in AMD work, with previous experience working for a similar organisation, either in the humanitarian or commercial sector. However, we will also consider applications from candidates who have gained the necessary technical and practice experience in the military and can demonstrate a keen interest and willingness to learn the skills needed for AMD work. Where required, MAG will offer on the job training in all areas of AMD.

Successful candidates will also need excellent diplomacy and liaison skills to effectively build relationships with local authorities and security forces. All candidates should be willing to take on the challenges of working in the developing world and work as part of a flexible and committed team, to save lives in communities that need it most.
