Chemonics seeks a chief of party for an anticipated five year USAID site-based conservation project in Madagascar. The project aims to reduce threats to targeted ecosystems through improved community-based natural resource management, expand opportunities for market-led and conservation-compatible economic development, increase access to social services for communities near areas of high biodiversity value, and support policy initiatives to promote land tenure and natural resource use rights. The project will focus on two to three priority geographic zones facing significant threats to terrestrial and marine ecosystems. We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

Provide overall project leadership, management, and technical direction Oversee project work planning, performance management, and strategic communications Oversee implementation plans and ensure project activities are aligned with budgetary parameters and client requirements Supervise the work of project personnel and subcontractors, focusing on core results, achievement of work plan and targets, and timely implementation Serve as the project's key liaison with USAID, government of Madagascar counterparts, environmental nongovernmental organizations and external donor partners, local civil society organizations, and relevant USAID/Madagascar programs


Advanced degree in natural resource management, environmental conservation, or other closely related field Minimum 10 years of progressively increasing responsibility implementing donor-funded projects of similar size and complexity to the Madagascar project, including five years of management experience in a senior-level role Technical knowledge and experience in natural resource management, biodiversity, conservation, and/or ecology; skills in climate resilience, public-private partnerships, or sustainable financing mechanisms desired Familiarity with science and technology innovations preferred, such as remote cost-effective data collection, low- to no-cost mapping tools, and predictive analytic toolsStrong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with high-level host-country beneficiaries, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience coordinating with and building the capacity of local government and civil society counterparts Professional experience in Madagascar with extensive knowledge of the country's environmental policies and the conservation and development context strongly preferred Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity Fluency in English and proficiency in French
